In 2019, European capitals and major cities were already affected by extreme heat, with temperatures reaching 42.7 °C in Paris, 40.4 °C in Amsterdam, 41.6 °C in Bonn, and 38 °C in London. Tropical heat waves significantly increase mortality rates among older populations, especially in densely populated urban areas.
